DESCRIPTION

This game is one that i created in University for an assignment. The Game is a Third person game set in a cave with climbing mechanics and platforming. the game features lava which instantly kills the player and restarts them at their nearest checkpoint.

Game Design

Task

The task that was given to us was to create a game for an assignment. we had full control over what direction to take our game. i decided to do a third person platformer. The main inspirations for this was the Uncharted and Tomb Raider games

Scripting

  • Created a Custom climbing System that allows players to grab a wall and scale it to get over obstacles and became the main mechanic,

  • Created a Respawn Mechanic using collision boxed and saving player location

Animation

  • I Created an animation blueprint to be able to be used with my custom Character i got of mixamo,

  • I Created 2 Sets of animations, one for walking and jumping the other for climbing.

  • I used a Blend Space for the climbing animations to let the animations mix depending on what way the player is controlling the character,

UI

  • Created a stamina bar to run off of the stamina functionality,

  • The bar Auto refills when depleted,

  • The bar doesn't affect the climbing system.

Sound Effects / Materials

  • I Created sound effects for the game

  • Created footsteps with custom sound effects to switch between sounds to make the steps unique

  • I also added ambient Lava sound effects to the level.
